AUDIO DESCRIPTION

DOs DON’TS
Provide clear and precise descriptions: Objectively describe what is visible: movements, actions, gestures, expressions, colors, positions, and other relevant details in concise language. Being Subjective: Avoid personal opinions or judgments. The audio description should remain neutral and factual.
Create Orientation: Describe spatial arrangements, such as where the ball, players, or action is happening. Terms like “left,” “right,” “top,” or “center” are helpful. Providing Unnecessary Information: Avoid irrelevant details or long stories unrelated to the current action.
Focus on Key Details: Highlight what is essential for understanding the game. Avoid overwhelming listeners with minor, irrelevant details. Overloading Speech: Don’t talk continuously. Leave pauses for listeners to process the information.
Convey Emotions: Show excitement in your tone when the moment calls for it (e.g., during a goal). Let your intonation reflect the game’s intensity without exaggerating. Making Assumptions: Don’t speculate about players’ intentions or the outcome of actions. Stick to what is visible.
Stay Synchronized with the Game: Deliver descriptions in real-time to keep listeners connected to the live atmosphere. Using General Terms: Avoid vague words like “there” or “over there.” Be specific, such as “left of the penalty area.”
Name Players and Teams: Use names or jersey numbers to identify players clearly. Avoid using vague terms like “he” or “she.” Ignoring the Listener’s Perspective: Remember, listeners rely entirely on your description. Avoid skipping steps or making leaps in logic.
Capture the Atmosphere: Describe the crowd, weather, stadium, or other visual aspects that contribute to the game’s mood. Speaking Monotonously: An emotionless, flat tone can bore listeners. Vary your tone to reflect the game’s mood.
Explain Technical Terms: Use terms appropriately but explain them if they’re not commonly known. Losing Focus: Always stay with the central action. Long digressions detract from the game.
