Tennis – Five Rules to Know
- Basic Gameplay
Tennis is played as a singles match (one player per side) or doubles match (two players per side). Players must hit the ball over the net into the opponent’s court in a way that the opponent cannot return it successfully.
- Court Dimensions
The court is always 23.77 meters long. For singles matches, the court is 8.23 meters wide, and for doubles matches, it is 10.97 meters wide.
- Net Height
The net divides the court into two halves, is suspended on the centerline between two posts, and has a height of 91.4 cm at the center.
- Scoring System
A game is won by scoring four points (15, 30, 40, and game), with at least a two-point lead required. A set is won by winning six games with at least a two-game margin.
- Match Format
A match is won by winning two sets in standard play or three sets in certain competitions, depending on the tournament rules.
