
Water Polo – Five Rules to Know
- Number of Players
Each team consist of 13 players in total. Seven players (six field-players & one goalkeeper) are allowed to play at the same time. - Scoring
A goal is scored when the ball crosses the goal line completely, between the goal post and under the crossbar. The team with the most goals score, at the end of the game, wins. - Shot Clock
Each team has a time limit of 30 seconds per possession to get a shot on goal. The shot clock resets to 20 seconds if there is a major foul committed or a shot on target with a regain of possession. - Duration of a Game
The game is played in four quarters, each period has a playing time of 8 minutes. If the game is tied, it will be decided with a shoot-out. - Major Fouls
Holding, sinking, pulling back or hitting your opponent concludes in a major foul. The player must leave the field for 20 seconds. If one player gets ejected three time, that player is out for the rest of the Game
