Rowing – Five Rules to Know

  • The Start
    The race begins with the following signals. First, the race offcial starts with the “Attention” command. And follows with the “GO” command.
  • The Length
    Every race is 2000 Meters straight-on.
  • The Finish
    The boat that crosses the finish line first wins the race. The front of the boat is the determining part. In a close call situation, the winner can be decided by a photo finish.
  • The False Start
    If a team leaves the starting mark before the starting sound, it is considered a false start. Each team is allowed one false start. In case of a second, the team is disqualified.
  • Lane Changes
    Every boat has to stay in his lane, otherwise they will be penalized.
