Diving – Five Rules to Know
- Dive Sequence
Divers must perform a predetermined number of dives in a specific order, and they must declare their dives in advance.
- Degree of Difficulty
Each dive is assigned a Degree of Difficulty, which is determined by the dive’s complexity and the level of risk involved. The higher the degree of difficulty, the more points a diver can potentially earn.
- Water Entry
The entry into the water should be as smooth and splash-free as possible. Divers are penalized if they make a large splash or fail to enter the water cleanly.
- Judging & Scoring
The dives are scored by judges (usually seven), who evaluate the dive based on five criteria: approach, takeoff, flight, entry, and overall impression. The scores are given on a scale from 0 to 10.
- Incomplete Dive
If a diver does not complete his dive, for example failing the required rotation. The dive is considered invalid or failed.
