Badminton – Five Rules to Know

  • Scoring System
Matches are played best of three games to 21 points, using rally scoring where a point is scored on every rally, regardless of which side served.
  • Serving Rules
The serve must be delivered underhand with the shuttlecock struck below the server’s waist, and it must land diagonally in the opponent’s service court.
  • Shuttlecock in Play
During play, the shuttlecock must remain airborne, and a point is lost if it touches the ground, lands outside the boundaries, passes through the net, or hits a player’s body or clothing.
  • Faults
Faults occur if a player touches the net, strikes the shuttlecock before it crosses the net, or if the same side hits the shuttlecock more than once during a rally.
  • Player Rotation in Doubles
In doubles, players must alternate serving and receiving, switching service courts as points are scored to ensure equal participation.
